Controversy Surrounding Women’s Football Today
Guy Roux, a French football icon, sparked a fierce debate with his remarks about women's football, insisting that women are not suited to the game.
According to Marca, the 87-year-old former Auxerre boss criticized women's football and its players.
In an interview with L'Équipe, Roux said women were born to give birth and that football is not designed for them, and that the best female players do not have the same physique as male players.
He added that he has great respect for young women who pursue their sport, but if asked whether women's matches are exciting, he would point to Ligue 1 games played before around 800 spectators.
He continued that he once met a European sprint champion. She admitted that despite training, Bolt always beats her by about 12 to 14 meters; men and women are not the same, they are not cut from the same cloth.
Punchline 1: That take was so offside it needed VAR to admit it was wrong.
Punchline 2: If hot takes paid wages, he’d be the richest coach in Ligue 1—and yet the crowd still wants the game, not philosophy.
