Egypt's Trezeguet apologizes after AFCON heartbreak

Mahmoud Hassan 'Trezeguet', star of Egypt, apologized to the Egyptian fans for missing out on lifting the Africa Cup of Nations trophy in Morocco.

Egypt fell in the semi-final to Senegal 1-0 on Wednesday night.

The Pharaohs now face Nigeria on Saturday to determine third place.

In Friday's press conference, Trezeguet said we gave our best, but luck wasn't on our side; that's football.

He added that we played to win the title from the start of the tournament; everyone, players and the coaching staff under Hesham Hassan, did their best.

He added that Nigeria is a strong opponent with top players, but the Pharaohs will fight to win the bronze.

He denied any tension with the Senegal players during the semi-final.

And he concluded that we gave everything, but we couldn't qualify because luck faded; I thank the coaching, administrative, and medical staff for the long camp from Cairo to tomorrow's finale.

Bronze bid ahead: Egypt vs Nigeria

Punchline 1: If football is a 90-minute drama, bronze is the encore.

Punchline 2: We lost the cup, but at least our fans still know every snack vendor by heart.
