Hadary's TV moment stirs debate after Arab Cup exit
Sources drop a surprise about Hadary's controversial appearance.
Essam El-Hadary, Egypt's veteran goalkeeper coach for the Arab Cup squad, sparked widespread backlash in Egyptian football circles after appearing on the Qatar-based show 'Program Quiz' just hours after the Pharaohs bowed out of the edition in Qatar.
Egypt finished third in Group C after drawing with Kuwait 1-1, drawing with UAE 1-1, and losing to Jordan 0-3.
Head coach Helmy Toulan and assistant Mamdouh Al-Mohamdi oversaw the team, joined by goalkeeper coach Hadary and team manager Ahmed Hassan.
The appearance aired on Al-Kass channel's 'Program Quiz' and featured former Al-Ahly teammate Mohamed Barakat, who won the prize of 10,000 dollars.
Hadary faced negative comments on social media after the episode aired, coming just after the heavy loss to Jordan.
According to sources within the team, Hadary recorded the episode after the UAE match in the second round, with permission from team manager Ahmed Hassan.
Separately, Hany Abou Rida, president of the Egyptian Football Association, requested a full report from the head of the mission in Qatar and from Helmy Toulan to explain what happened.
Sniper joke #1: If confidence was a shot, Hadary just scored on a quiz show—talk about saving the day and the joke track at once.
Sniper joke #2: In football and quizzes, his reflexes are uncanny—he dives for answers as well as penalties, and somehow keeps a straight face.
