Hamdallah shines in a dramatic clash in the Roshen Saudi League
The Moroccan forward Abdulrazak Hamdallah, Shabab's striker, made headlines in the Saudi Pro League for a goal scored and another ruled out.
Hamdallah opened Shabab’s account against Damac on Friday at the Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Sports City Stadium in Abha, during the 23rd round of the Roshen Saudi League.
It was his tenth goal in his tenth appearance for the Lions across competitions since the start of the season, including the GCC Club Championship.
Hamdallah didn't stop scoring, adding another goal in the 42nd minute, but the referee ruled it out for a prior foul and booked him with a yellow card.
Controversy and expert verdict
The decision sparked controversy, with some deeming it unfair to the Moroccan striker, arguing the goal was legitimate and should not have been disallowed.
However, Saad Al-Kathiri, the match-analysis writer for the Saudi newspaper Al-Jazirah, disagreed with those claims and said the decision was 100% correct.
He added that the decision to disallow the goal in the 44th minute was correct, following a positive intervention by the Video Assistant Referee.
He also explained that Hamdallah used a hand on the head of Damac's defender before scoring, and that the yellow card was the right call for the foul.
Punchline 1: If goals were speeches, that one got interrupted by VAR's mic drop.
Punchline 2: In football as in life, sometimes your best move is arguing with the ref—just hope the mic is off next time.
