Imam Ashour Denies Salah Gomaa’s Account
Imam Ashour, Al Ahly’s star, dismissed the narrative propagated by Salah Gomaa, the club's former Red Devil, regarding an alleged renewal dispute with the club.
On Instagram, Ashour wrote: "What was said on programs attributed to me or claimed as my words did not happen at all; I am not responsible for them, and nothing I allegedly said was uttered."
He added that the supposed interview never occurred, and that his focus remains training and his job, with the team's interests above all else. Thank you.
Ashour did not travel to Tanzania with the Al Ahly squad last week, as officials suspended him for two weeks and fined him 1.5 million pounds.
Salah Gomaa spoke about this on MBC Egypt 2: "I was with Imam Ashour yesterday and we talked about his crisis with Al Ahly, and we were joined at dinner by Kahraba."
Gomaa added that Ashour should avoid entering a difficult phase, because the team is preparing for the World Cup and it is crucial; decisions previously made have affected him negatively.
He concluded that Ashour has personal ambitions and believes he has been wronged, but that he must receive better treatment within the club. Everyone wants him to stay at Al Ahly, and a calm resolution is possible through negotiation on renewal terms.
Punchline: If rumors were footballs, this story would have needed a better goalkeeper. Punchline 2: In football and life, the best contract is the one you renew every morning—coffee first, negotiations later.
