Inside Al Ahly’s Money Maze: Shobier Drops Bombs and a Weiler Return Hint
Shobier’s revelations spark debate over Al Ahly’s management

Key revelations

Millions vanished and repeated mistakes!

Ahmed Shobier, a prominent media figure, launched a sharp critique of Al Ahly’s board led by Mahmoud Al-Khatib after the club’s exit from the CAF Champions League, while also dropping fresh behind-the-scenes notes about a possible return of Swiss coach René Weiler.

During his radio show, Shobier discussed the consequences of Al Ahly’s elimination, insisting that the absence of fans at Cairo Stadium had a clearly negative impact on the team, saying that the supporters deprived themselves and the team of support, a key factor in such big clashes.

He added that fans should have shown patience, especially since many urged restraint, noting that what happened cannot be blamed on the administration alone; the fans themselves played a role in what occurred.

But Shobier didn’t stop there; he criticized Al Ahly’s management for a crisis in contracts and contract drafting, pointing to repeating the same mistakes. He said he asked one official before the Swiss coach Marcel Koller’s departure about his dues, and was told the coach would receive only three months if the contract was terminated.

He went on to say the reality proved different: Koller ultimately received the full contract value, equivalent to nine months of pay — roughly a full season’s salary — and there were other losses for the club, including a large fine awarded to one of the coaches, as well as issues related to the salaries of members of the assistant staff.

He also noted that the club had ended its contract with a Swiss lawyer who drafted the contracts for $36,000 annually, a decision he described as costing the club millions later due to contract errors.

Weiler.. Return unlikely despite efforts

Regarding the managerial file, Shobier tackled the ongoing debate about possibly bringing René Weiler back to lead Al Ahly again, confirming that such talk resurfaces from time to time without real indications of feasibility.

He clarified that Weiler is currently working in the United States, and that Al Ahly’s management had indeed attempted to contact him several times to persuade him to return, but the Swiss coach remained firm, rejecting the idea of working in Egypt again.

Shobier concluded his remarks by stressing that Weiler’s return is not as easy as some imagine and cannot be imposed or achieved simply by desire, given the coach’s persistent stance against returning.

Punchlines (light sniping-style jokes to close on a lighter note):

1) If football contracts paid like my coffee, you’d get a latte with a clause—extra foam, extra fees. 2) Al Ahly’s negotiations are so unpredictable that even the scoreboard files a complaint to HR.
