Dimarco's rising star prompts contract talks
Sport pages report that Inter Milan are in intense negotiations to extend Federico Dimarco's contract after a strong start to the current season under head coach Cristian Kevo.
And the Italian international will turn 28 next month, with his deal running to June 2027.
He faced some difficulties last season (2024-25), and he expressed frustration with how former coach Simone Inzaghi handled him, criticizing Inzaghi's decision to deploy him for only 60 minutes, which drew criticism of his remarks about the coach who had won many titles and reached the Champions League final with him, and they even clashed privately afterward.
To date this season, Dimarco has scored two goals and provided three assists in six Serie A games for Inter, reclaiming his confidence and form.
Statistics also show that Dimarco leads Serie A players in successful crosses (23), chances created (22), and dangerous chances (11) this season so far.
According to Football Italia, Inter Milan could reward Dimarco for his solid recent form by offering a new enhanced contract, expected to run until 2029 or 2030. Sources say the contract will be longer and bigger.
Dimarco isn’t in a rush to leave, having grown up an Inter fan and rising through the youth ranks before becoming a core first-teamer after several loan spells.
This season the Italian left-back has started in 4 of 6 Serie A games, and started the first two UEFA Champions League matches.
He assisted in the loss to Juventus, then scored in the next match against Sassuolo, and in the third straight game he set up a goal versus Cagliari, before adding another goal and assist against Cremonese.
This season, the left-back has appeared in 8 matches, contributing to 5 goals (2 goals and 3 assists) in 570 minutes.
Across his Inter journey, Dimarco featured 36 Primavera games with four goals and three assists; with the first team he has played 198 matches scoring 57 and making 37 assists, and 10 yellows in 11,703 minutes.
Across the European campaign, Inter won away at Ajax Amsterdam 2-0 thanks to Marcus Thuram, then a 3-0 win over Slavia Prague with Lautaro Martinez scoring twice and Dumfries adding one.
To date, Inter have netted five goals without conceding, while their defense has been solid; their European form mirrors last season's exceptional early run that left them in fourth place with 19 points.
In Serie A, their biggest tests were losses to Udinese and Juventus, but they have 12 points from other games, including a five-goal win over Torino, and a three-match winning streak pushing them to fourth.
Dimarco's future could run to 2029-2030 with a revised salary and a release clause. Inter wants to secure him long-term.
Inter's defense in Europe has looked solid so far, and fans hope this form continues into the Champions League beyond the group stage.
Punchline 1: If Dimarco signs, Inter might finally keep a clean sheet on the left.
Punchline 2: If the deal lasts to 2030, they’ll need a bigger trophy cabinet.
