Ireland's Bold Bid to Reclaim Liam Delap: Will Chelsea's Star Switch Allegiance?

Ireland's Silent Pitch for Liam Delap
The Republic of Ireland believes it can persuade Chelsea striker Liam Delap to represent them instead of England, relying on one of Manchester United’s former defenders to help the case.
Delap has represented England across youth levels but has yet to break into the senior team.
The Irish setup is trying to convince the 23-year-old to switch allegiance and play for them, following the path his father Rory once carved.
John O'Shea, Ireland's assistant coach and a former Manchester United defender, reportedly spoke to Delap's father about the potential move, according to The Sun.
O'Shea said: "As they say, the ball is in Liam's court. We'll wait and see."
Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson responded: "It's still his decision." He added: "He hasn't played for England and World Cup selection remains distant, but the final call is his."
Delap's Chelsea debut hasn't been easy, following a £30 million move from Ipswich Town who dropped to the lower tier last summer.
The forward, once with Manchester City, picked up a knee tendon injury at the start of the season and has only managed two goals in 32 appearances.
Punchline: If he switches, the press box will need extra passport stamps. Punchline 2: Football drama, served with extra fries.
