Joy on Hold: VAR Shadows Barça’s Night Against Atlético in Copa del Rey Semi-Final
Disallowed Barca goal sparks debate as VAR reviews Lewandowski's offside.

Match Recap

A long stoppage shadows Barça's disallowed goal.

VAR spoiled Barcelona fans' joy as they faced Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final at the Metropolitano.

The Blaugrana went into halftime trailing 0-4 after a weak display and catastrophic errors that allowed Diego Simeone, the Roja-blancos' coach, to command the match.

And at the start of the second half, a Barça player netted Barça's first in the 52nd minute.

The match paused for about five minutes to review the goal, as Lewandowski appeared to be offside.

After the return of the referee, Juan Martinez Munuera, to the VAR room, it was decided the goal would not be counted due to Lewandowski offside.

VAR runs on suspense and coffee.

If timing is everything, Lewandowski just got a standing ovation from the offside.
