Juventus Asked About Kano, Says Sami Al-Jaber
Sami Al-Jaber, a legend of Saudi football, revealed that Juventus showed interest in Mohammed Kano, the Al Hilal midfielder, some time ago.
In remarks to the Nadina program on MBC 1, Al-Jaber said that Mohammed Kano was one of the standout players for Saudi Arabia at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, impressing against Argentina, Poland and Mexico.
He added that after the Saudi win over Poland, one Juventus star contacted him, Pavel Nedved, who was vice president at the club at the time, asking about Kano’s age and whether he had played abroad before.
Al-Jaber’s comments about Kano followed Kano’s standout showing at the 2025 Arab Cup, where he scored three goals to sit second in the tournament’s scoring chart, one behind Jordan’s Ali Alwan.
Al-Jaber also defended Abdullah Al-Hamdan, the forward for Al Hilal and the Saudi national team, after criticism that followed a missed Panenka penalty against Morocco in the group stage.
The legend said that Hamdan showed strong character after missing the penalty, appearing at the press conference and apologizing to the fans, and that he is likely to have a strong say in upcoming matches.
He added that taking the penalty was brave, noting that many players have missed penalties but Hamdan showed courage in taking responsibility.
He also argued with the idea of blaming Renard for accusing the player of carelessness, because if he had converted the kick, he would have gained great confidence and would be compared to Zinedine Zidane.
Saudi Arabia are preparing to face Jordan the next day, Monday, at the Al Bayt Stadium, in the Arab Cup 2025 semifinals, with the final to feature the winner of Morocco versus UAE if Kano’s team advances.
Punchline 1: Transfer rumors move faster than a sprint at a press conference; Kano's name now travels with a passport.
Punchline 2: If this keeps up, the rumor mill might sign contracts before the players do.
