Laporta’s Bold Play: Barcelona Eyes 2030 World Cup Final at Spotify Camp Nou, Araujo Returns Light Up the Bid
3 February 2026
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has unveiled the club's plan to bring the 2030 FIFA World Cup final to Spotify Camp Nou.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Laporta said Camp Nou would be the best stadium in Europe, with the facilities required to host major finals.
He also spoke about aiming to stage the 2029 UEFA Champions League final, insisting the venue will be ready and operate at full capacity.
Barcelona announced yesterday that it had formally submitted an application to UEFA to host the 2029 final.
Jaume Collboni, the city's mayor, confirmed the bid and said Barcelona would push to host the 2030 World Cup final at Camp Nou.
Camp Nou will compete with Real Madrid’s Bernabéu stadium for the final, as will the Moroccan organizers, who also seek to stage the 2030 decider. The push comes as Morocco bids to host the tournament as a whole.
In another strand, Laporta celebrated the return of defender Ronald Araujo, who scored the winner against Alavés and started the match in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal.
The president hailed Araujo as a leader, saying his goal gave Barça a sense of calm as they won 2-1. He noted that Barça controlled much of the game, while Alavés showed true cup spirit.
Lamine Yamal's first goal opened the scoring, described as a moment of genius that broke the stalemate early on.
On governance, Laporta said a board meeting would be held on Monday; those staying would run the club until March 15 and would align with the title-winning squad until July 1, reflecting the democratic spirit of the club.
The club also announced a formal plan for leadership continuity and continuity with the current squad amid a period of transition.
Punchline 1: If Camp Nou lands the 2030 final, even the calendar will need extra time and a coffee break after the deadline.
Punchline 2: Spotify Camp Nou: where the playlist is loud, the crowd is louder, and the ball somehow travels faster when it hears a good beat.
