Late drama at La Ceramica: Villarreal and Juventus share the spoils in a 2-2 thriller
1 octobre 2025

Opening pace and early chances
In a fast start, Juventus sought to impose their attack but Villarreal looked sharper, particularly through the Ivory Coast winger Pepe, who continually troubled the Bianconeri's defense.
The first real threat came in the 10th minute from a direct free kick on the edge of the box, delivered by Parejo and diverted by a defender to a corner.
Pepe kept pressing, earning a penalty claim after a collision with a Juve defender, but the referee waved play on amid strong protests from the hosts.
Moments later Pepe again attacked down the right and fired a powerful shot that grazed the post after a clever turn.
In the 16th minute, Juventus were forced into an early substitution as Capal went off with an injury and Joao Mario came on to shore up midfield.
Second-half surge and game-changing moments
Villarreal didn't take long to capitalise on their momentum. In the 18th minute, Mikaotadze burst into the box, traded passes with Pepe, and fired a precise finish into the bottom corner for the hosts' opener.
Pedraza nearly added a second soon after, twisting in from the left and forcing a fingertip save that pushed the ball against the post and away.
Juventus began to tighten their grip, with Weston McKennie driving through midfield and forcing a sharp stop from the goalkeeper and another attempt over the bar.
From a later corner, McKennie and a teammate combined, but the finish did not find the target and the ball drifted away.
Villarreal pressed on, with Pepe creating chances and the hosts probing for a second, while Juve continued to look dangerous on counterattacks.
Late drama seals an unlikely point
As the second half wore on, Juventus' pressure paid off: Federico Gatti met a long throw with a dazzling bicycle kick to pull Juventus level in the 49th minute.
Five minutes later, Francisco Conceição exploited a turnover to run through and finish past the keeper for a 2-1 lead.
Then the home side pushed for more, but in the 86th minute Villarreal appealed for a handball but nothing was given.
In the 90th minute, Renato Viiga headed in from a corner at the far post to snatch a stoppage-time equalizer and seal a dramatic 2-2 draw for Villarreal.
The stadium exploded as the Yellow Submarine showed their fighting spirit, while Juventus left with a mix of relief and disappointment.
Punchline 1: If drama had a season pass, tonight's match would be the MVP.
Punchline 2: In football, late goals are nature's way of saying, “surprise, plot twist!”
