Match Recap
Manchester United escaped a potential defeat against West Ham United as they drew 1-1 on Tuesday night in the 26th round of the Premier League.
West Ham opened the scoring early in the second half through Tomas Soucek in the 50th minute, and Benjamin Sesko struck a dramatic late equalizer for Manchester United in the 96th minute.
United started with a familiar lineup for the third straight match, relying on Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo and Matheus Cunha in attack.
The first half was fairly balanced, with United pressing but the interval ending goalless, despite chances such as a Shaw shot that was blocked near the line and a West Ham effort that required a save from the United goalkeeper.
In the second half, West Ham's pressure paid off in the 50th minute when Jarrod Bowen delivered a low cross that Tomas Soucek finished from close range.
A controversial moment followed when Casemiro's header was ruled out for offside after a VAR review, though the ball had seemingly crossed the line before the whistle.
Carrick made late changes as he searched for a second goal, while Nuno Espírito Santo responded with fresh attacking options.
After late pressure and chances, United equalized through substitute Benjamin Sesko in the 90+6 minute, avoiding what would have been Carrick's first loss in charge.
West Ham moved to 24 points in 18th place, while United stayed on 45 points in fifth.
Two quick quips to keep the smile: "If the goal had a mortgage, United would still be paying it off." "In this league, the calendar has more stoppages than my coffee breaks."
