Lodi's Legal Plot Twist: Free Move to Brazil Sparks FIFA Tug-of-War
Lodi’s next chapter begins in Brazil as legal battles continue.

Overview

Brazilian defender Renan Lodi, formerly of Al Hilal, commented on his dispute with the club and his legal stance after it was confirmed he has joined a new team today, following a unilateral contract termination earlier this season.

Lodi appeared at Atlético Mineiro's headquarters in Brazil today, preparing to join the squad on a free transfer starting January, according to Brazilian newspaper Globo.

When asked about the dispute with Al Hilal and the case before FIFA, the player replied calmly: "I’m comfortable with this matter; the lawyers know its importance, and my priority now is playing and training".

Lodi had terminated his contract earlier this season after the club kept his registration at the Asian Champions League top level only, effectively barring him from domestic play.

Al Hilal filed a lawsuit against the player with FIFA to secure his financial and moral rights.

In turn, the player filed a similar suit to prove his position, while the case remains before FIFA.

Legal analyst Ahmed Al-Shehhi had previously said there would be no new developments for Lodi at present, as pleadings and documents from both sides are still open, with results likely after this phase ends.

Update and Light-Hearted Note

Humor note: If contracts could Houdini, Lodi’s surely vanished faster than a referee's whistle in a tense moment.

The only red card Lodi wants now is a standing ovation from his new teammates.
