Löw in Ghana Spotlight: Will the 2014 World Cup Champion Lead the Black Stars?
3 April 2026
Context
Joachim Löw, the 2014 World Cup winner with Germany, responded to reports linking him with Ghana's national team for the 2026 World Cup this coming summer.
Ghana, drawn in a group with England, Croatia, and Panama, is eyeing a new coach after parting ways with Otto Addo last Tuesday.
According to Ghana Soccer, the Black Stars have Löw near the top of their shortlist to take charge.
Since leaving Germany after Euro 2021, Löw stepped away from coaching and rejected several offers from clubs and national teams.
Yet he has shown openness to new challenges, saying recently: In the past two years I received a few offers, but they weren't motivating. Still, I will consider options that I find interesting.
Nevertheless, Löw says there have been no official calls from Ghana's Football Association yet.
Before Löw emerged as a candidate, Morocco's Walid Regragui and France's Hervé Renard were among the leading contenders to replace Addo, according to ESPN.
Ghana's federation is expected to decide the new coach's identity within a week or two, according to the association president two days ago.
Latest developments and outlook
Regardless of the outcome, the Black Stars are hoping for stability and a coach who can guide them through a challenging World Cup group.
Punchline 1: If Löw signs, Ghana's chalkboard will finally show a real 4-3-3—on paper first, then in practice.
Punchline 2: If not, at least the coffee will stay strong through the paperwork.
