Luck vs Leverage: Chevalier and the Monaco PSG Huddle in Ligue 1
29 November 2025
Match Recap
Lucas Chevalier, the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, said he felt lucky after a 1-0 defeat to Monaco on Saturday, in the Ligue 1 clash that kicked off round 14.
Key moments
Takumi Minamino scored the game's only goal in the 68th minute, while Monaco finished with ten men after defender Tilo Kehrer was sent off in the 80th.
Monaco snapped a run of three league defeats and a draw in the Champions League, recording their seventh league win this season to move to 23 points in sixth place.
PSG's loss leaves them on 30 points, with Marseille and Lens breathing down their necks on 28, ahead of the next round of fixtures.
Chevalier endured a heavy collision after 12 minutes as he tried to clear the ball, while Monaco's Senegalese forward Lamine Kamara looked to pounce and the young French keeper hit the ground in severe ankle pain.
The referee Clement Turpin only produced a yellow card for Kamara, and VAR did not intervene.
Chevalier later told BeIN Sports: 'Everyone saw what happened, I think my career was under threat; things could have gone differently today, I was very lucky, I didn't dwell on it; it's over.'
He added: 'But I think there are things to avoid; I was very lucky, and I'll play football every week.'
Chevalier attributed the defeat to a lack of focus and bite, losing the ball rashly; the opponents were stronger and more determined, and they scored the only goal.
'In the last ten minutes, we pressed hard, but I don't think it was enough to win the three points today; we've also been dealing with fatigue, injuries, and fixture congestion since the start of the season.'
Chevalier concluded: 'It's a unique season compared with last; we play almost every three days, no room for regret—let's come back stronger next match.'
Punchline 1: If luck had a goalkeeper, it would be Chevalier—just keep him on the line and hope the ball forgets the target.
Punchline 2: PSG’s calendar is so crowded that even their trophies need a coffee break.
