Mac Allister signals end of title dream
Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool's midfield talisman, has waved the white flag on defending the Premier League this season.
Liverpool's campaign took another hit as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Fulham on Sunday, in the 20th round.
Liverpool sit on 34 points in fourth place, 14 behind leaders Arsenal, which has prompted Mac Allister to concede that lifting the trophy this season is unlikely.
In the aftermath of the draw, Mac Allister told ESPN that there are not many chances left to retain the title, Arsenal are in brilliant form and City are very close, but Liverpool are far on both performance and results, so the title won’t be theirs again this year.
He added that it hurts what is happening because they were supposed to enjoy this title race and be in a much better position than they are now.
He continued that many things have changed since last season, but the current reality is not ideal. He also noted that new players arrived to replace those who left, and while they have changed a lot, he did not want to go into details.
Liverpool were moments away from victory when Cody Gakpo struck in the 90+4 minute, only for Harrison Reed to equalise for Fulham in the 90+7.
Punchline: If title hopes were Wi-Fi, Liverpool would still be buffering on the loading screen—please stand by.
Punchline: If optimism were goals, Mac Allister would be celebrating a hat-trick by now.
