Madrid Derby Heats Up Again
A surprising move from Atlético Madrid signals no warmth toward Vinícius Júnior, Real Madrid’s Brazilian star, and the atmosphere between the clubs remains tense as yesterday’s derby showed once more.
Vinícius Júnior steered Real Madrid to a 3-2 win over Atlético Madrid in the 29th round of La Liga.
Vinícius struck twice (52 and 72 minutes), Federico Valverde added the third (55), while Atlético Madrid replied with Ademola Lookman (33) and Nahuel Molina (66).
AS noted that Vinícius had a score to settle with Atlético boss Diego Simeone after a remark in the Spanish Super Cup, and yesterday, as the Brazilian headed toward the substitutes’ bench, Simeone reminded him of his brace.
Atlético doubled down on the feud by omitting Vinícius’ name from their X posts about the goals, stating that Real Madrid equalized from a penalty and that the home side scored, without naming Vinícius in the two Madrid goals.
Yet the tweet did mention Valverde when Madrid led 2-1. The piece concluded that this incident is unlikely to be the final chapter in the Vinícius–Atlético saga.

Punchline 1: Vinícius doesn’t just dribble—he aims and hits. Atlético’s defense filed a missing persons report on their tactics.
Punchline 2: If drama were a league, Atlético would lead, but there are 90 minutes to turn the page before the next derby screws you over again.
