Ticket policy shake-up at Old Trafford
What did United officials do?
A fresh behind-the-scenes move at Manchester United has sparked debate among fans after reports emerged of upcoming changes to the club's ticket policy for next season at Old Trafford.
This move comes as pressure on the club's leadership grows, with ongoing fan demands for affordability amid a series of financial decisions that affected attending matches in recent years.
Supporters' groups expressed concern about plans to reorganize seating areas, notably in the Bobby Charlton Stand, where proposals would cut traditional-fan seats to widen hospitality spaces.
A mid the controversy, the club announced the decision that has angered supporters: a 5% increase in season-ticket prices for most seats from next season.
This marks the fifth straight rise by the club, with management arguing the move is needed to boost revenue to support the first team and to invest in the club's infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the supporters' association said fans had hoped prices could be frozen this year, especially given calls from fan groups across English football to curb rising ticket costs.
On the other side, the club stressed that the actual increase is modest: on average a rise of just over £2 per match for adult season-ticket holders, and about £1 for fans under 16.
According to published figures, the minimum price for an adult season ticket will reach £646, roughly £34 per home league game across 19 fixtures at Old Trafford.
Punchline 1: If ticket prices rise again, you’ll be paying per breath you take in the stands—better bring a calculator and a passport to the checkout queue.
Punchline 2: Manchester United: turning fans into season-ticket negotiators since 1878.
