Mbappé’s Quiet Bid for Madrid Royalty: Can He Overtake Ronaldo in One Year?

Mbappé’s bid to dethrone Ronaldo in Madrid
Mbappé, Real Madrid's rising star, is edging toward Cristiano Ronaldo's legendary Real Madrid record, chasing glory in a year that already saw Ronaldo leave for Al Nassr.
Madrid’s goals and the cup clash
Mbappé scored twice to help Madrid scrape a 3-2 victory over Talavera in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.
It's shaping up to be a historic year for him, the first full calendar year in Madrid since his arrival from PSG in 2024.
Mbappé has now tallied 58 goals across all competitions for Madrid this season.
That puts him level with Ronaldo’s 58 Madrid goals in 2012, although Ronaldo still holds the single-year record with 59 in 2013.
Madrid now needs one more goal and a last-match win over Sevilla at the Bernabéu to seal the crown in a year when trophies have eluded Carlo Ancelotti.
Meanwhile, Madrid, under their current coach Xabi Alonso, also bowed out of the FIFA Club World Cup in the semifinal.
The club had already exited the competition under the leadership of former boss Carlo Ancelotti.
Punchline 1: If Mbappé keeps this pace, Ronaldo might start offering coaching lessons.
Punchline 2: Madrid's calendar year is dividing headlines and hotel bills, but at least the goals are staying in the same city.
