Organizers’ Global Praise for a Seamless World Cup
Football legend Mikaël Silvestre praised Qatar's exceptional organization and operational excellence at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Silvestre, the French former international defender who starred for Manchester United, Arsenal, Inter Milan, and other world-class clubs, is in Qatar for the historic tournament featuring 48 teams—the first time the event reaches such a scale.
In a briefing with the tournament's media center, Silvestre said: "We are witnessing high-quality matches, strong competition, and players with great sportsmanship who deliver outstanding performances. The group stage adds real pressure, and we are seeing exceptional levels of talent among the youngsters who are catching the eye on the field."
He also noted the smooth organization that has impressed him since arriving in Qatar.
“From modern stadiums to a growing infrastructure, the level of organization is outstanding, especially the guest services. All of this positively affects players, who are ready and focused to shine on the world stage.”
Silvestre added that Qatar continues to prove its efficiency in hosting major events. He recalled the 2022 World Cup, where fans could watch several matches in a single day across different venues with ease, and he said the 2024 edition in Doha demonstrates a sustained commitment to developing young players.
Matches are played across eight new stadiums in the Aspire Zone, underscoring Qatar's pledge to nurture young talent and build a lasting sporting legacy. The World Cup U17 is the first edition to feature 48 teams, and is expected to produce the next generation of football stars.
Preparations, he noted, are designed to ensure an exceptional experience for teams and fans alike, with a schedule that will run through November 27. The event will host up to 104 matches, with eight daily at times, all staged in eight venues within the Aspire Zone, culminating in a final at Khalifa International Stadium.
Organizers report broad global media interest, with hundreds of outlets from dozens of countries covering the event and a dedicated area for fans featuring football games, e-sports zones, and cultural activities that showcase Qatar’s heritage and the diversity of participating nations.
In line with sustainability commitments, organizers emphasize waste management and accessibility services, including audio-described experiences for some matches and sensory rooms for fans. The city’s transport network, including the metro's Gold Line, provides direct access to Aspire Zone, with designated drop-off zones and adapted parking for fans with disabilities. Ridesharing and taxi options also connect fans to venues across the city.
Punchline 1: If hosting were a sniper rifle, Qatar’s aim would be never off target. Punchline 2: And if humor were a ticket, this tournament would sell out laughs as fast as goals.
