Milan finalizes Maignan renewal
AC Milan has completed all details to renew French goalkeeper Mike Maignan’s contract for the current season.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Milan has reached a final agreement with Maignan’s agents, and signatures are expected in the coming days.
Deal drivers and terms
The arrival of Massimiliano Allegri to lead the team, and Marco Filippi as goalkeeping coach, helped persuade Maignan to stay with the Rossoneri and push forward with the club’s project.
Igli Tari, the sporting director, and Giorgio Furlani, the chief executive, overcame the final hurdle in the talks over commissions due to Maignan’s agent.
The outlet says the commissions were verbally agreed to be under 10 million euros, and will be formalized with a contract at Milan’s headquarters soon.
The new deal runs through June 2031, a five-year term, with an annual salary of €5.5 million plus incentives up to €1.5 million.
With this salary, Maignan matches Portuguese teammate Rafael Leao as the club’s top earners, and Milan plans to announce the agreement within 7 to 10 days.
Deal specifics and implications
The agreement also includes performance-related bonuses and possibilities to renegotiate if the club hits certain milestones, a factor that kept Maignan aligned with the project.
Rafael Leao's status as one of the club's highest earners underlines Milan's intent to retain their core talent as they push for domestic and European success.
Meanwhile, the goalkeeping gloves just got a bigger paycheck.
If consistency paid rent, Maignan would own Milan's stadium by now.
