A Historic Run and a Proud Message
The Moroccan goalkeeper Munir Mohammedi lauded the Lions of Atlas for their performances at AFCON 2025, though the continent’s crown slipped away. Morocco’s bid ended with a 1-0 defeat to Senegal in a tightly fought final.
Mohammedi posted on his official Instagram account: "I took some time to reflect, and today I feel an immense sense of pride."
He added: "We are proud to have contested one of the best editions of the Africa Cup of Nations in history, and proud of this team and all we achieved together. Reaching the final after 22 years is an achievement that shows the work and ambition in Moroccan football."
He continued: "Every player gave their best with commitment, solidarity, and a deep love for the shirt. We fought together, driven by the same will: to represent Morocco with honour, determination, and respect."
Mohammedi praised the crowd support: "None of this would have been possible without the exceptional support of our people. Heartfelt thanks to Moroccan fans who gave the world a lesson. You are unique and you proved it. Your passion, enthusiasm, and constant presence were our greatest strength."
He also thanked King Mohammed VI for his continued backing of Moroccan football, as well as the Royal Moroccan Football Federation president, Fawzi Lekjaa, and the coaching staff and teammates.
Mohammedi asserted: "We did not win the cup, but we won many important things. We created an identity and confidence that allows us to face challenges once deemed impossible. Together, we showed what Morocco can achieve, and with unity, humility, and ambition, we will keep advancing and inspiring this great country. Long live Morocco!"
Punchline 1: If defending a title is hard, try defending a nation’s dreams—it's a full-contact sport.
Punchline 2: Our fans were so loud the trophy filed a noise complaint. Guess silence isn’t a trophy’s language!
