Morocco Turns Global Power: Real Madrid Legend Hails the Atlas Lions
28 March 2026
The Chilean legend Iván Zamorano, a former Real Madrid striker, lauded Morocco, calling them "one of the strongest teams on the world stage."
He made the remarks on the sidelines of the Ecuador-Morocco friendly, a warm-up for World Cup 2026.
In an interview with the Ecuadorian newspaper El Universo, Zamorano said: "For Ecuador, facing Morocco — a global power — is very useful to assess their current level and where they stand technically."
The Ecuador-Morocco friendly, played Friday as part of preparations for the next World Cup, was a meaningful test for both sides.
He added that matches against strong opponents help Ecuador prepare for the tournament.
The game at Madrid's Metropolitano Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw.
Morocco’s next friendly is against Paraguay on Tuesday as part of 2026 preparations.
