Neuer closes the door on a possible Germany return
Jaw-dropping words from the legend.
The German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich's veteran, ended the debate on any return from international retirement to guard Germany at the 2026 World Cup.
Recent reports suggested Neuer could return from international retirement, given doubts about Marc-André ter Stegen after an injury comeback and limited playing time at Barcelona due to competition with Joan Garcia.
Neuer, in statements carried by Sky Germany, said he has closed the door on a national-team return, declaring that he retired from playing on purpose.
Regarding his future with Bayern Munich, he said: "What matters is how I feel in the second half of the season; during the international break I will think about how things unfold, and I am curious about my future."
Neuer had previously announced international retirement after Euro 2024, and his Bayern contract runs until June 2026.
