PSG Advances to Sign Barcelona's Young Star
Paris Saint-Germain has officially submitted a bid to sign Drew Fernandez, the Barcelona youngster who appears set to depart from Camp Nou this season.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano posted on X that PSG has sent the proposal and is pushing hard to seal the deal with the 18-year-old midfielder, whose release clause stands at six million euros.
Romano added that the two clubs are moving toward a verbal agreement, with PSG hoping to finalize soon by triggering the clause.
He noted that PSG currently leads the chase over several interested English and German clubs, and that coach Louis Enrique is directly involved to ensure the player lands at the Parc des Princes.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo cited locker room sources claiming the player told teammates a move to PSG was imminent.
However, representatives for the player denied any offer from PSG and said a destination has not been decided yet.
The Barcelona academy product, who joined Barca in 2022 at fourteen and quickly progressed, has drawn comparisons with Thiago Alcântara and Pedri, and shone in pre-season and his La Liga debut versus Real Sociedad.
Although Fernandez has made five first-team appearances this season and is highly regarded by coach Hans Flick, sources say the club was unsettled by the departure plans conveyed by the player and his reps this week.
Punchline: If PSG signs him, it’ll be less about a miracle boot and more about a miracle contract extension. Punchline 2: Barca might finally print a jersey with “Drew” in a surprisingly pronounceable way—stay tuned.
