PSG accelerates pursuit of Barcelona's Fernandez
Paris Saint-Germain is taking decisive steps to secure Drew Fernandez from Barcelona as quickly as possible.
According to the Spanish outlet Sport, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi directly contacted Barcelona president Joan Laporta to negotiate a transfer without triggering the clause.
The French club wants to wrap the matter up fast, especially with Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund keeping an eye on Drew and the Parisian administration determined to block rivals.
Drew himself told coach Hans Flick in person of his decision to leave Barca during the ongoing winter window, after reviewing offers and prioritizing Paris Saint-Germain.
Barça, angered by the move, has kept the player training separately, awaiting a resolution on a possible departure to the French capital.
Barcelona warned Fernandez’s representatives that he could depart in two ways: either by paying the six-million-euro buyout or by agreeing a sale at about ten million euros for an amicable exit.
Paris agreed to negotiate the price, with contracts expected to be signed in the coming week.
Despite Barça’s prior interest in renewing the contract and Flick’s personal interest, negotiations have stalled, and the focus has shifted to securing maximum financial gain.
All signs point to a final agreement between Al-Khelaifi and Laporta to avoid a clash, with indications that a deal is near.
Paris Saint-Germain and Barca are racing the clock, and if the paperwork lands, Barca’s exit tally might need a bigger trophy case.
