Injury Update: Pedri Returns, López Out for Barcelona
Barcelona coach Hans Flick received good news: Pedri is fit again ahead of Saturday’s clash with Alavés, but the camp was hit by a fresh setback as Fermín López was ruled out after an injury sustained in today’s training.
According to the club’s medical update, López is dealing with a light strain in the right leg, with an estimated absence of about two weeks.
Consequently, López will miss Barcelona’s upcoming La Liga and UEFA Champions League fixtures against Alavés, Atlético Madrid, Real Betis, and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Whether he can feature in the Osasuna game at the Spotify Camp Nou on December 13 remains to be seen, two days after the club’s stated recovery window.
This injury represents a setback for Flick, who has watched the injury list shorten with Pedri’s return, though long-term concerns remain with Ter Stegen and Javi.
López’s absence is especially painful given his strong form and his contribution in front of goal and creation. This marks the second injury López has suffered this season.
The setback compounds Barça’s troubles after a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League group stage.
Punchline: If Barça’s fitness staff started a band, every note would be “rehab.”
Punchline 2: At this rate, Barça’s defense will be so predictable even a mime could penetrate it.
