PSG’s Pay Tug-of-War with Mbappé: A $60.9M Scandal in the Making
20 February 2026
Background
French outlets report that Paris Saint-Germain has begun to yield to the legal demands of its former star Kylian Mbappé, in line with court rulings issued against him in the back-pay case.
The PSG has paid 4 million euros of the 6 million euros the Labor Court ordered, in a decision dated December 12 of last year.
This move comes after the crisis peaked when Mbappé’s lawyer sent a court notice to the club demanding full execution of the ruling that calls for a total payment of 60.9 million euros to the player, of which the club had paid 55 million earlier.
According to Lequipe, PSG is currently negotiating with Mbappé to persuade him to concede part of the ruling, specifically the clause that requires the club to publish details of the decision on its official site for an entire month, something the club considers an insult to its image.
Nevertheless, negotiations are still stalled, as Mbappé’s legal team threatens to resend the court notice with a new payment order if the remaining two million euros are not paid immediately.
While the club weighs an appeal to recover the funds it was forced to pay, legal expectations do not look favorable; Mbappé has secured successive rulings from the French league and the ordinary courts.
According to the French newspaper, Mbappé rejects any mediation or amicable settlement, insisting on full financial rights including wages and bonuses for his last season (2023/24) in a dispute that has dragged on for about a year and a half, despite the formal end of the contract in July two years ago.
What’s Next
The club remains cautious, ready to appeal to claw back the amounts already paid if negotiations stall or the balance remains unpaid, while Mbappé’s side signals further legal steps if necessary.
Regardless of the talks’ trajectory, Mbappé has won consecutive rulings in his favor, and the dispute shows no sign of a quick, tidy settlement.
