Arab Cup 2025: Almoez Ali's Mission

With ten days remaining before the Arab Cup 2025, to be held in the Qatari capital Doha, Qatar's national team star Almoez Ali prepares to feature for the Maroon in the region's flagship football competition, the Arab Cup.

Almoez Ali expressed pride in wearing the national jersey, noting that every match is a chance to repay the fans and his family, carrying a heavy sense of responsibility to meet expectations and lift Qatar's flag high.

Almoez Ali is Qatar's all-time top scorer, having won the Asian Cup twice and amassing 60 goals in 123 international appearances. A product of the Aspire Academy, he is part of a generation of Qataris who recently qualified for the 2026 World Cup.

He, who broke the record for goals in a single Asian Cup in 2019, says this Arab Cup edition will be the most competitive and will leave lasting memories for players and supporters alike.

The striker adds: Arab Cup is a major tournament with a special character that brings together nations with shared history and culture, as fans across the Arab world come to Qatar to cheer their teams, a celebration of brotherhood and unity on the field and in the stands.

The draw placed the host Qatar in Group A alongside Tunisia and the winners of Syria vs South Sudan and Palestine vs Libya.

The Maroon are preparing for their opening match on December 1 at the Al Bayt Stadium.

Ali stresses the importance of playing at home in Qatar, saying: When we play in Qatar we feel the energy and passion of the fans at every moment, a powerful motivation. I expect this edition of the Arab Cup to be a resounding success on all fronts.

He also highlighted Qatar's commitment to hosting world-class events. Since hosting the 2022 World Cup, Qatar has shown exceptional efficiency in organizing global events and a growing sports industry that benefits the country and the region.

The event will be staged from December 1 to 18 across six World Cup-stadiums that saw World Cup 2022 action: Al Bayt, Ahmad Bin Ali, Education City, Khalifa International, Lusail, and Lusail 974.

Sixteen teams will compete for the coveted title. Nine of the top FIFA-ranked teams automatically qualified, while 14 teams will vie for the remaining places in playoffs on November 25-26 in Qatar.

A promotional tour for the Arab Cup was announced by the organizing committee to bring the trophy closer to fans in several countries.

The local organizers stated that the campaign aims to give fans in the region a chance to see the trophy up close ahead of the tournament in December.

The cup will travel to Saudi Arabia, then Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.

From December 1-18, 2025, Qatar hosts the Arab Cup in six World Cup-stadiums that saw World Cup 2022 action.

During this period, Qatar is also set to host a string of football-related events, including the Under-17 World Cup, which ends on November 27. The organizers, in collaboration with FIFA, also announced that Qatar will host the three final matches of the annual Club World Cup to crown the world's best club for 2025.

The schedule features three finals on December 10, 13, and 17, with the December 17 final pitting the winner against Paris Saint-Germain, UEFA Champions League holders, for the World Cup of Clubs crown.

Punchline time: If Almoez lands a shot with the accuracy of a sniper, the net might file a formal complaint for harassment. And if Qatar’s defense forgets the manual, Almoez will remind them with a smile and a goal—precision theater, Doha style.

Punchline two: With the crowd behind them, Qatar might need a bigger trophy room—the Arab Cup is coming to town, and it’s bringing plenty of swagger along for the ride.
