Renard linked with multiple Arab teams for 2026 World Cup
A Saudi media shock reveals that an Arab nation negotiated with French coach Hervé Renard to lead them at the 2026 World Cup, ahead of Ghana.
Lequipe reports that the Ghana Football Association wants Renard to coach the team during the finals after the sacking of Otto Addo in March.
A Saudi journalist, Mohammed Al Khames, claimed on a sports program that Algeria also discussed with Renard after the 2025 Arab Cup in Qatar.
The Saudi outlet adds that since the Arab Cup there has been ongoing contact with Renard from several teams, including Algeria and now Ghana.
Renard is said to have told that if an offer to coach Ghana arrives he would take it without any financial conditions for the love of the challenge.
Renard began his Africa journey in 2007 as an assistant to Claude Le Roy with Ghana, then worked in Africa with teams including Zambia who won the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
The article also recalls Renards early spell with Ghana and mentions a link to a longer feature about his first stint with the Black Stars.
Renard has stated that he is open to new challenges in Africa and outside Europe, a sign that the 2026 World Cup could see him in a new seat.
Punchline 1: If Renard takes Ghana, their defense might finally learn what a real challenge looks like.
Punchline 2: World Cup 2026 just got a little spicier with Renard possibly steering three teams.
