Rumor: Jaissle could coach Saudi Arabia for World Cup 2026
Saudi football analyst Adnan Jastneh proposed an exciting idea: entrusting the Green’s coaching duties before the 2026 World Cup to German Matthias Jaissle, the head coach of Al Ahli Jeddah.
Hervé Renard, the current Saudi national team manager, faced sharp criticism after a shocking 4-0 defeat in a friendly between the teams last Friday.
A broad segment of the Green’s supporters are calling for Renard’s dismissal before the World Cup finals in 2026.
In his column published in Okaz newspaper, Adnan Jastneh wrote, "The latest results, led by the heavy defeat to Egypt, were not just a one-off; they were a clear warning sign reflecting a technical fault requiring urgent remedy."
He added, "Reevaluating the coaching staff is no longer an option to postpone; it is a necessity imposed by the phase, demanding a clear decision without delay."
He argued that hiring Matthias Jaissle deserves serious consideration, given his knowledge of Saudi football, the work he has done, and his ability to develop players, especially local talents.
Jaissle had previously guided Al Ahli Jeddah to win the AFC Champions League Elite, the club’s first title in that competition in its history.

Two light-hearted notes follow: first, if Jaissle takes the helm, the defense might finally stop leaking goals—it’s less about luck and more about a well-drilled, leak-proof system. Second, if Renard stays, expect press conferences to be so dramatic that even the trophy cabinet will want subtitles.
