Salah's Quiet Night Against the Giants: Liverpool Stumbles at Home to City
9 February 2026
Salah's quiet spell against the Premier League giants
Liverpool fell 2-1 at home to Manchester City, with Mohamed Salah featuring for the Reds.
Salah did not contribute a goal or an assist, continuing his run of quiet performances against the league's big clubs this season.
Earlier, Salah had no involvement in the opening win over Arsenal and also did not feature in losses to Chelsea and Manchester United.
Liverpool were beaten 3-0 by City in the first leg, with Salah again absent as he prepared for Egypt duties.
He returned to face the giants yesterday but another City defeat underscored his continued quiet spell against English football's elite this season.
Historically, Salah has tormented the big sides, with 13 goals against City across all competitions, 16 versus Tottenham, 11 against Arsenal, 8 against Chelsea and 16 against United.
Punchline 1: If Salah's goal drought were a movie, the sequel would be called Bigger Against the Big Boys.
Punchline 2: City will need to lend Salah a map because every time he meets them, he ends up getting lost in the final third.
