Saudi Federation Holds an Extraordinary Meeting
Hours after the international window closed, the Saudi Football Federation convened an extraordinary meeting amid renewed scrutiny of coach Herve Renard’s leadership. The national team had endured a pair of defeats during the break, a 4-0 loss to Egypt and a 2-1 setback against Serbia, all of which intensified criticism at the helm.
According to the Saudi daily Al-Riyadia, Yasser Al-Misehal, the federation president, chaired the session with Saleh Al-Dawood, the team manager, and Mohammed Al-Hamid, the administrative head of the national teams.
This gathering marked the second of its kind this season, despite the campaign nearing its end, underscoring the pressure to chart a clear path forward.
The newspaper did not dwell on Renard’s future, instead highlighting the technical and administrative programs planned for the squad in the near term.
The SAFF has repeatedly stressed there is no intention to dismiss Renard before the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Saudi Arabia find themselves in a challenging Group B alongside Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde, with the top two teams advancing directly and the best eight third-placed teams across the 12 groups also earning a World Cup berth.
