Scripted Drama? Pereira Hints at Favoritism as Al-Nassr Edge Al-Ittihad 2-0

Backdrop and Controversy
Danilo Pereira, star of Al-Ittihad, hinted at an intentional assist to help Al-Nassr win the Clasico, sparking chatter about fairness in a marquee fixture.
The Clasico between Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad wrapped up Friday night in Week 21 of the Roshn Saudi Pro League, with the "Global" side taking the win 2-0 on their home ground.
Pereira posted on Instagram Stories, writing: "Some things feel scripted... unbelievable!" echoing the sense that fate might have a hand in the outcome.
The comments followed protests by Sergio Conceicao and Ittihad players over the referee's decision not to award a penalty when the ball touched Angelo Gabriel's hand during the match.
Ittihad players also argued for two more penalties after handballs by Sultan Al-Ghannam and Mohammed Seimakan, and the referee checked VAR but allowed play to continue.
Moments later, the referee awarded a penalty to Al-Nassr, converted by Senegalese forward Sadio Mane for the opening goal.
With the victory, Al-Nassr moved to 49 points, reclaiming second place and narrowing the gap to leaders Al-Hilal to one point (50).
Goals: Sadio Mane (84') and Angelo Gabriel (6+90).
Punchline 1: If football had a script, VAR would be the director and still miss the punchline.
Punchline 2: My fantasy team asked for subtitles; apparently the referee speaks in silence and yellow cards.
Implications for the Title Race
Al-Nassr's win tightens the race at the top, narrowing the gap to only one point behind leaders Al-Hilal; the Clasico proved once again that football isn't just a game, it's a soap opera with a well-timed whistle.
