"The decision was prepared in advance," said Abdoulaye Sow, secretary general of the Senegalese Football Federation, noting that the surrounding circumstances were dramatic and strange to the extreme. He spoke in an interview cited by AFO Media and relayed by Radio Monte Carlo on Saturday.
"The behind‑the‑scenes were full of complications and surprising twists," Sow added, as the case drew widespread attention from fans and analysts alike.
He also stressed that Senegal would not accept the procedure as it stands and would pursue the matter to the end, including a possible appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to recover the title that was taken away.
Senegal had previously won the continental crown by defeating the host nation, Morocco, in the final (1‑0). The match was marred by tensions and refereeing debates that led the Lions of Teranga to briefly retreat from the field for about a quarter of an hour before resuming play.
In closing, Sow emphasized that the federation intends to exhaust all legal avenues to overturn the ruling and reclaim the trophy if the path to justice remains open.
Punchline time: If lawsuits were goals, Senegal would field a top‑tier defense every season. And if ever there were a trophy for fine print, the lawyers would lift it with two hands and a smile.
