Injury rocks Morocco-Syria Arab Cup clash

Morocco's squad suffered a heavy blow in the match against Syria on Thursday evening, in the quarterfinals of the Arab Cup underway in Qatar.

In the 17th minute, Tarik Tissoudali, Morocco's star, was injured after a contact with Syria's goalkeeper Elias Hdaya in a contested aerial duel.

Tissoudali complained of a powerful injury after an aerial cross collided with the Syrian keeper, leaving the Moroccan player falling in a frightening fashion.

The player received treatment for seven minutes on the pitch before he was substituted on medical grounds, with teammate Walid Azarou coming on.

Tarik Tissoudali, a 32-year-old player for Khorfakan in the UAE, had been drafted into the Atlas Lions squad for the Arab Cup by coach Tariq Sktiwi, leveraging his long experience after spells with Le Havre, De Graafschap, Ghent, PAOK.

He had scored a goal in the tournament and assisted the winner against Saudi Arabia in the group stage.

Morocco finished top of Group 2 with 7 points, one clear of Saudi Arabia.
