Egypt face six absences ahead of Nigeria showdown
The Egypt team, coached by Hossam Hassan, faces another setback before Saturday’s third-place playoff with Nigeria in Morocco this tournament.
Ibrahim Hassan, the team manager, confirmed the absence of Yasser Ibrahim and Ahmed Fattouh due to injuries.
Fattouh suffers a hamstring tear from the semi-final against Senegal, while Yasser Ibrahim carries a back issue and will miss.
Mohamed Hamdi, left-back, is ruled out with a cruciate ligament injury, and Hossam Abdel-Majid will miss after second yellow card.
Additionally, Marwan Attiya and Salah Mohsen are suspended for two matches by CAF for misconduct after the Senegal game.
Egypt lost to Senegal 0-1 in the semi-final, and coach Hassan is expected to reshuffle the lineup to cope with the casualties.
A decision on the starting XI will be taken in the hours ahead as Egypt aim to finish the tournament on a higher note.
Punchline: If football has taught us anything, you can win with fewer players—just not with the referee counting your grocery list.
