Smouha Declines January Signings
Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Smouha's head coach, announced that no winter signings would be made to strengthen the squad. In an interview with Koora, he explained that while the team needs reinforcements, the club's board, led by Dr. Mohamed Bilal, has a new policy on football finances.
Finances First, Growth Later
He noted that the management is prioritizing funds to resolve a land issue affecting the club and other members' concerns, rather than splashing cash on players. He believes Smouha already has capable players and simply needs time for better harmony, since the squad was assembled a few weeks before the league started.
Abdel Aziz added that he will scout younger talents from the academy to push into the first team and strengthen several positions.
Smouha bowed out of the Egypt Cup, finishing fourth in Group III, and sit fourteenth in the Egyptian Premier League with 16 points. The team also exited the Egypt Cup Round of 16 after a penalty shootout loss to Haras El Hodoud.
Punchline 1: If patience were a player, Smouha would be the captain—on the bench, apparently.
Punchline 2: Their transfer budget is so tight, even the Nile is on a water-saving plan—zero splash, all class.
