Snow, Strategy, and a Shiver: Juventus Faces a Frosty Challenge in Norway
25 November 2025
Match Day Preview
Luciano Spalletti believes Juventus are in an unfavorable position ahead of their Champions League away game against Bodø/Glimt this evening, primarily due to playing in subzero temperatures and the artificial surface at Aspmyra Stadium in Norway.
The Bianco-Nero are still chasing their first win in this season's Champions League after draws with Borussia Dortmund, Villarreal and Sporting Lisbon, and a 1-0 loss to Real Madrid.
With only three points, Juventus sit outside the knockout positions, currently 26th, two points clear of host Bodø/Glimt who have drawn twice and lost twice in their first four European fixtures this season.
On the upcoming match, Spalletti said: "The stadium and the weather are clear drawbacks. I'm lucky to work abroad, but the air here is very different, extremely cold, and we are not used to it. It’s about different habits and conditions from our environment."
Spalletti added: "We must close the gap between the teams. They are very skilled at identifying their identity, and it's not just about the pitch or the weather. They have real value and produced good performances in continental competitions."
When asked what he expects from his players tonight, he replied: "This is another part of the story. I hope the players know how to adapt, and handle a team that operates like a machine, making things hard for everyone. If we want to be on equal footing, we must match their pace and play at a high technical level, even on a pitch like this."
"In Florence the ball moved very slowly in the first half, so we had to play deeper to find solutions. There were different things in the second half. We have a lot of quality, but we must improve our passes and avoid giving the opponent a chance to hurt us."
He continued: "We will make some changes. We cannot allow gaps in the middle; they are a very strong team that thrives in tight spaces. We must stay compact and force them to move around us."
He also noted: "Speed makes the difference, and we know that well. We want to be at the top. We don't seek easy games; we want tough matches, adapt to them, and earn the respect we deserve."
What did Cambiasso say?
Defender Andrea Cambiasso admitted the Bodø/Glimt match will be very difficult due to the weather conditions and the pitch they’ll have to play on.
"The atmosphere is different, and the feel is different, but we must be ready. It will be a tough match, but we must be prepared."
He added: "The main issue is the climate and the pitch conditions. We must compensate somehow. Their national team has beaten Italy twice, but we’ll see what happens tomorrow. We must prepare as best as we can."
He finished: "The biggest difference will be physical, because temperatures could reach -6, affecting breathing and leg strength. We may have to change boots. I haven’t played on artificial turf since I was 17, and that will be a big difference for us."
He concluded: "We know the margin for error is razor-thin. We must secure the three points. It’s an important match."
Punchline 1: If Juventus win, perhaps the freezing temperatures will finally thaw their celebrations.
Punchline 2: In football and weather alike, you either adapt or end up as a human icicle on the field.
