Spain pushes to add Valencia and Vigo to 2030 World Cup bid
Spain's football federation is filing an official request with FIFA to include Valencia and Vigo as host cities for the 2030 World Cup, which is planned as a joint bid between Spain, Morocco and Portugal.
The federation intends to formally submit the petition to FIFA to add Valencia and Vigo to the list of candidate hosts.
The 2030 World Cup will be staged jointly by Spain, Morocco and Portugal.
OneFootball reported that the Spanish federation is nominating Valencia and Vigo to host the tournament, following the withdrawal of Malaga and A Coruña.
According to AS, Rafael Lozano, president of the Spanish federation, defended the Mestalla stadium in Valencia and Balaídos in Vigo during a recent media appearance.
The official file is expected to be sent to FIFA in the coming days, which holds the final decision on whether these two cities will be included.
Earlier reports had suggested further changes might come, with Spain currently retaining nine of the eleven cities it initially proposed to FIFA after Malaga and La Coruña withdrew.
Meanwhile, Morocco plans to continue proposing six cities despite talks about reducing them, while Portugal's project aims to keep the three cities it started with.
