Tammy Abraham back in the Premier League with Villa
Aston Villa have completed the permanent signing of England striker Tammy Abraham from Besiktas for £18.2 million (roughly €21 million) plus add-ons. The 28-year-old returns to the Premier League after spells in Italy and Turkey on a 4.5-year contract.
Besiktas had activated the mandatory purchase option from Abraham's former club Roma for around £11 million, before selling him back to Villa at a healthy profit.
Abraham did not feature in Besiktas's latest game, a 2-2 draw with Eyüpspor, as the deal was finalized.
Villa announced on their official site: “Villa are delighted to announce the signing of Tammy Abraham on a permanent deal from Besiktas.”
Abraham was a key figure for Villa during their 2018-19 promotion campaign, scoring 25 league goals, including the decisive penalty that sent them to the Wembley playoff final against West Bromwich Albion.
That form made him the first Villa player since Andy Gray in 1976-77 to reach 25 league goals in a season. After leaving Villa Park, he won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea and helped Roma win the Europa League.
Punchline time: Sniper mode engaged — if goals paid rent, Abraham would own Wembley. And if transfers came with interest, Villa just unlocked a bumper return on investment.
