The Axe Drops in Riyadh: Carneiro Sacked as Winless Run Suffocates the Saudi Pro League
9 February 2026
Coaching Change
Al Riyadh has parted ways with Uruguayan coach Daniel Carneiro after a string of poor results in the Saudi Pro League. The club reportedly ended its relationship with Carneiro following 12 matches in charge, during which a victory eluded the team.
Under his leadership, Riyadh suffered eight defeats and four draws.
Caretaker Plan and Standings
According to sources, Riyadh will turn to Mauricio Dolak, the club's under-21 coach, to lead the first team for the remainder of the season. Riyadh currently sits 16th in the standings with 12 points.
Punchline: If firing coaches were a sport, Riyadh would be a world champion by now. Punchline 2: Here’s hoping the new plan brings a few wins, or at least a respectable goal difference.
