Three-Way Battle for Bahrain's Crown
The seventh round of the 69th Nasser bin Hamad Premier League closed with 17 goals in total, averaging about 2.8 per match.
Malikiyah and Muharraq continued their unbeaten runs, becoming the only teams yet to lose after seven rounds.
The title race intensified as Malikiyah and Al Khaldiya sit level on 15 points, while Muharraq sits one behind in third.
At the top of the scoring chart, Joninio Biaywensi of Muharraq has eight goals, one ahead of Abdullah Al-Hhash of Al-Ahli.
Al Khaldiya sealed a 2-1 win over Sitra at Bahrain National Stadium, with Mehdi Abdul Jabbar and Gilson Moreira scoring for Khaldiya, while Othman Al-Haj replied for Sitra.
Malikiyah then posted a 1-0 victory over Al-Shabab at Sheikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium, with Mohammed Al-Faleh netting the winner.
Al Muharraq earned a convincing 3-0 win over Al-Had at Arad, through Junior Da Costa, Hussein Abdul Karim, and Abdullah Al-Khalasi.
With these results, Muharraq moved to 14 points after seven games (4 wins, 2 draws), while Malikiyah and Khaldiya remained level at the top.
Al Ahli beat Bahrain 3-0 at Bahrain National Stadium, with Abdullah Al-Hhash scoring twice and Onana once.
Riffa defeated Al-Ahli 4-1, with Youssef Ben Soudah scoring twice, Ali Hassan and Wellington Moreira adding the others; the visitors’ only goal came as an own goal by Vinicius Vargas.
Najma and Badi drew 1-1; Najma’s Ali Al-Dosari opened the scoring, while Badi leveled via an own goal by Dusan Jokovic.
Round eight is set for December 19, featuring Al Had vs Khaldiya, Bahrain vs Shabab, Sitra vs Al Ahli, Najma vs Malikiyah, Riffa vs Al Ahli, and Badi vs Muharraq.
Punchline 1: If this title race gets any tighter, the trophy might need a calendar with extra pages.
Punchline 2: If goals were frequent-flyer miles, Bahrain would already be close to a golden boot club.
