26 January 2026
Meeting with Egypt's Premier League referees
Colombian Oscar Ruiz, head of the referees committee of the Egyptian Football Association, held a lengthy meeting today, Monday, with 43 referees from the Egyptian Premier League at the federation's headquarters.
Ruiz focused on the importance of the upcoming phase of the competition, stressing the need to adhere to the main committee's instructions, and to apply the game's laws with professionalism, transparency and firmness.
During the referees' educational lecture, Ruiz reviewed the VAR protocol and explained and reviewed several arbitration situations that occurred in recent matches, during the Premier League season and the Capital Cup.
Attending the meeting were Wage Ahmed, deputy chairman; Gehad Greisha and Said Murad, members; Azab Haggag, the committee's director; and, in addition, the technical committee members Fahim Omar, Mohamed Al-Hanfi, and Mohamed Youssef.
Ruiz had taken a vacation during the Christmas period in his homeland.
The Egyptian Premier League match between Al Ahly and Wadi Degla is scheduled for January 27, 2026 at 16:00.
Two quick punchlines to end on a laugh
Punchline: VAR is basically a time-machine referee—rewinds ninety times, and somehow still runs over the clock.
Punchline 2: In football they say inches matter; with VAR it's all about decimal places and the dramatic pause.
