Tottenham in Turmoil: Fans Rally Against De Zerbi Appointment
29 March 2026
Campaign and Controversy
Tottenham are studying a potential signing of Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi, after parting ways with Croatian Igor Tudor, but many Spurs supporters have gathered to oppose appointing the former Brighton boss.
According to The Mirror, three Tottenham fan groups issued statements opposing the possible appointment of De Zerbi, who could take over as the club's new manager after Tudor's sacking.
Season and Standings
The London club has been struggling this season, failing to win a single Premier League game in 2026, and sits just one point above the relegation zone.
The current season started with coach Thomas Frank, but with fluctuating results in the Premier League, the club's management sacked him and appointed Tudor instead.
Contrary to expectations, results worsened, Tottenham found themselves on the brink of relegation in the Premier League, and they were eliminated from the Champions League by Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16.
Tottenham currently sit 17th with 30 points, one point above West Ham in the 18th relegation place, with seven games left.
After a 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, the club announced on Sunday the departure of Tudor after just six weeks in charge.
Meanwhile, Tottenham officials study appointing a new coach, with De Zerbi—who previously excelled at Brighton—seen as the best candidate to lead the Spurs.
But his remarks about Mason Greenwood, whom he coached in Marseille, were seen as a dangerous signal, according to The Mirror.
As a result, supporter groups united in the 'No to Roberto De Zerbi' campaign, believing his feelings toward Greenwood could harm the club's culture.
The former Manchester United star was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault and coercive behavior, but the public prosecutor dropped the charges.
After moving to Marseille following his Manchester exit, De Zerbi claimed he was 'a nice person' but paid a heavy price, and he knows a person completely different from the one described.
Several Spurs fans have not forgotten those quotes, believing he downplayed the allegations against Greenwood.
Tottenham Supporters' Trust said in a statement: "Clubs express their values through the decisions they make".
It added: "Who is appointed is hugely important. The coach defines daily expectations, what's acceptable, and how people are treated. In a time when Tottenham needs to rebuild, culture is as important as anything on the pitch".
Punchline 1: If Tottenham hire De Zerbi, press conferences will outlast the season—coffee will be brewed to the tempo of tactical questions.
Punchline 2: And if culture matters as much as the pitch, Spurs might finally win the trophy for the most eloquent post-match interview.
