Mbappe's Goal Denied by VAR
The Real Madrid–Girona match at Montilivi, in La Liga’s round 14, produced a tense moment in the 40th minute as Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring after a rebound in the box.
Arnau Martínez of Girona tumbled inside the area and appealed for a handball on Mbappe, but the French star kept the ball under pressure from three defenders and tucked it home, giving Madrid the lead.
However, the celebration was short-lived, as the Video Assistant Referee instructed the on-field official to review the moment.
On review, it became clear Mbappe touched the ball with his hand just before scoring, so the goal was ruled out.
Unahi's Moment of Breakthrough
Moments after the overturned decision, Girona surged forward; Tsygankov released Unahi, who struck with his first touch to beat Courtois and put Girona 1-0 ahead.
Madrid's early joy faded; Girona claimed win.
Two light snipers’ lines in the night: Punchline: 'Nice try, Mbappe' and 'VAR? It’s added to the script as a fourth official.'
