Mohammed Al-Daie, the former Al Hilal goalkeeper, believes Riyadh handed Italian coach Simone Inzaghi a stern lesson in the match on Sunday, saying the opponent produced a stunning display.
Al Hilal and Riyadh drew 1-1 in the 18th round of the Saudi Pro League, a result that left both sides level on points.
Inzaghi, Nunez and the Wake-Up Call
Speaking on the Saudi program "Dawri Unfiltered," Al-Daie said, "I think this defeat is a harsh lesson for Inzaghi in handling these games, as the opponent played with power and enthusiasm."
He added that most fans expected a Hilal win, but Riyadh showed they can grind out the result they want, a reminder for the commanders and players to respect the opposition in the matches ahead.
He described the loss as a season vaccine, arriving early in the second half and giving the team a chance to correct the path.
On Darwin Nunez, he noted: "The problem is Inzaghi brought him and remains convinced by him; Nunez squandered many easy chances, and the issue is also tied to the departure of Marcus Leonardo and the continued presence of Nunez."
He concluded: "We also know football, not just Inzaghi, but he persists in playing Nunez to prove his point."
Punchline 1: If tactics were penalties, Inzaghi would still argue with the wall. Punchline 2: Nunez keeps missing chances—maybe the goals are on vacation, too, in his calendar.
