Toney Mirrors a Legend as Al-Ahli Triumphs
Saif Al-Mutlaq, a former Saudi football star, says English forward Ivan Toney of Al-Ahli Jeddah bears a striking resemblance to a legend from Al-Nasr, thanks to the stunning form he's shown this season.
Toney completed a hat-trick that propelled Al-Ahli to a 4-1 win over Al-Najmah on Thursday, in round 23 of the Saudi Pro League.
On the show, Al-Mutlaq said that Toney is among the most successful forwards to join the Pro League and has great finishing ability, but his surge comes from on-field chemistry with Wenderson Galino and Riyad Mahrez.
From my perspective, Toney has a real shot at the Golden Boot in the Roshen League, and I think he resembles Majed Abdullah, because of his strong mental attributes that help him outwit opponents, especially ahead of goalkeepers.
On Al-Ahli's season, Al-Mutlaq added that there is a big technical gap between Al-Ahli and Al-Najmah, but the club has delivered superb levels since the start of the season thanks to the excellent work by Matias Jaissle, who has convinced everyone of his abilities.
Initially I wasn't convinced by the German coach, but he won me over with the team's excellent levels under his leadership.
Al-Ahli lifted its points tally to 53, moving into second place, only behind leaders Al-Hilal by goal difference, temporarily before the rest of the round.
Punchline: If Toney keeps this up, the ball might start signing autographs on its way to the net.
Punchline: The stadium could be louder than his celebrations—and that is saying something.
