When a Shoulder Becomes a Moment: Ronaldo, Puertas, and the Saudi Pro League Clash
22 March 2026
Key moment in the Saudi Pro League clash
The Portuguese star was at the center of an exciting incident in the Saudi Pro League.
Spanish player Cameron Puertas, on loan from Al-Qadsiah to Werder Bremen, revealed an incident between him and Cristiano Ronaldo, the Al Nassr captain, during a previous match.
Puertas played for the Qadsiah last season after joining from Union Saint-Gilloise, before moving on loan to Werder Bremen last summer.
Last season, the Spanish forward appeared in two games against Al Nassr, with Qadsiah clinching both by 2-1.
Puertas spoke about an incident in one of those matches, between him and Ronaldo, in remarks carried by the Saudi newspaper Al-Youm.
He said he collided with Ronaldo with a shoulder clash, sending the Portuguese star to the ground.
He added: after the game he saw Ronaldo upset, went over, felt that moment was the longest minute of his life, asked for Ronaldo's shirt, but Ronaldo refused.
The 27-year-old also described feeling embarrassed, but said his teammate Nacho, who used to play with Ronaldo at Real Madrid, stepped in to calm him.
Nacho told Puertas that Ronaldo did that because he loves to win, before the Spaniard managed to bring the star's shirt for him a day or two later.
Aftermath and reactions
That moment underscores the intensity and emotion of top-flight football, where a simple collision can become a story told by pundits and fans alike.
The episode also highlights how teammates and club friendships cross borders in the football world, adding a human touch to the rivalry between clubs and leagues.
Punchline 1: When you shoulder-check Ronaldo, you don't just get a rival—somewhere a shirt becomes a legend and a press conference gets a joke for life.
Punchline 2: In football, timing is everything; even a refused shirt can turn into a viral memory with a life of its own.
